Are the memorials just for family and close friends?
No, the memorials are for anyone who you want to remember. They serve as a dedication to someone who meant something to you in life. You can create a memorial for anyone you wish.
-
Can I upload my own music on to a memorial?
No. I'm sorry but due to copyright laws we are unable to allow users to upload their own music. However, if you would like to see a specific music track on the site please get in touch via our Contact Us form and let us know. If we are able to obtain the rights to the music then we will happily upload for you.

My favourite singer has just died, she was world famous. Can I create a memorial for her?
Please check the site as, if she was famous, the chances are that there will already by a memorial dedicated to her on the site already. You are welcome to create your own though if you would rather do that.
-
Can I create a memorial for my pet who recently died?
No. We're afraid that this site does not cater for pets. Sorry.
-
How do I add music to a memorial?
You can only add music to a memorial you have created. To add music go to My Memorials, and click Edit on your chosen memorial. You will then see the Add Music menu option, click this and follow the instructions.
You also have the option of adding music while a memorial is being created. -
Are the memorials removed after a certain period of time?
No. The memorials are only ever removed if they breach our Terms and Conditions. Fortunately this has never happened.
-
Can I select more than one tune from the list of music?
Yes, if you have paid for music for a memorial you can select as much or as little music as you want. If you select more than one music track they will be randomly shuffled when people visit the memorial.
-
If I add music do I have to pay for each tune separately?
No, you simply pay for music for a specific memorial. You can then add as much or as little music as you wish.
-
I only want family members to add items to my memorial. Can I preclude other persons from adding anything?
Yes, by default all memorials are set up in such a way that people need to email you asking permission before they can contribute to your memorial. You can choose who you wish to grant permission to by following the instructions in the email. You can see all the people that have permission to contribute to any of your memorials by clicking "Friend List" in your Control Panel (on the right hand side of the screen on the homepage). From here you can accept or reject people who ask to contribute to your memorials.
-
I keep receiving emails from people wanting to contribute to my memorial. Can I set it up so that they can contribute without bothering me with emails?
Yes. If you click the My Memorials menu option you can then select Email Preferences for each of your memorials. From here you can turn the following options On and Off:
1) Receive emails whenever a gift/candle/message/photogallery is added to the memorial
2) Allow any FriendsAtRest member to contribute to this memorial without my permission
3) Freeze memorial - turn off ALL emails and stop anyone else from contributing
You need to turn option 2 'ON'. You can also turn option 1 'OFF' if you wish and then you will not receive any more emails regarding this memorial. (Please note: this will also mean that you will not be able to vet messages etc that are being added to your memorial). -
I have just created a memorial and would like to include some photographs. Can I do that?
Yes. You can add photogalleries (and candles, gifts and messages) by visiting the memorial on the site and clicking the Photogallery option underneath the memorial. You can create as many galleries as you need and upload relevant photo's into these.
-
I created a memorial for my son but some of his friends have added candles with silly comments. Can I remove them?
We can remove these for you. As the memorial creator you can remove photo galleries and any messages that are contributed to your memorial. However, candles and gifts, because they have been paid for, have to be removed by an administrator. Please get in touch with us through our Contact Us form and let us know the details. Where necessary we will also take action against those responsible.

Do I have to get an email every time somebody wants to add something to the memorial I created?
The memorial I created now includes too many candles and gifts. Can I stop people adding anything else?
You need to turn option 3 'ON'. This will stop anymore contributions to this memorial. Please take time to consider whether Option 1 or Option 2 are more suitable before 'freezing' a memorial. -
Is it possible to delete a memorial?
Yes, as long as nobody other than yourself has spent money contributing to the memorial. Go to My Memorials and there is a Delete link next to each of your memorials. (Please note: by deleting your own memorial you will lose any money you have spent on that memorial).
-
Our local vicar has just died and the Parish Council would like to set up an online memorial so that the villagers can pay their respects. Is that possible?
Yes. Just set up the memorial from an individuals account and then any number of people can pay their respects to that memorial.
-
I want to add a gift to a memorial but I cannot find anything appropriate amongst those on offer. Can I add my own?
No, sorry, but for technical reasons we are unable to allow users to upload their own gifts. However, if you contact us through our Contact Form and make a gift suggestion we will happily try and source it for you.
-
I want to pay my respects on a friend's memorial. I sent a message to the memorial creator over 2 weeks ago but I have had no reply. Can you help?
Yes. If you do not receive an email back to your request to contribute to a memorial then please try again after 5 days. If you still do not receive an email back then contact us and we will attempt to get in touch with the memorial owner on your behalf. (Please note: we are only able to do this after 16 days from your initial attempt to contact them).
-
An old friend has just died and I want to pay my respects but I do not know the person who has created the memorial and he does not know me. Does that make a difference?
No. It shouldn't make any difference whatsoever. Click the "Pay My Respects" link at the bottom of their memorial. This will then allow you to send a message to the memorial creator stating why you would like to pay your respects i.e. they were an old school friend etc. It is up to the memorial creator then to give you permission to contribute to the memorial. Please allow some time for them to answer their email. If you still cannot get in touch with them but wish to pay your respects you can always create your own memorial.
-
