Why do you charge for candles and gifts?
We ask for a token amount when lighting a candle or contributing a gift to a memorial for a number of reasons. Principally, these are:
1) Friends At Rest relies on donations from people lighting candles and adding gifts to cover its running costs. We do not make a profit. The money from the candles and gifts goes back into improving the site and keeping the memorials online.
2) By contributing a small amount to light a candle or giving a gift we are able to allow memorials to be created for free. This means that anyone has the ability to remember their loved ones with a memorial regardless of their financial circumstances. By lighting a candle or contributing a gift you are not only showing your love to the friend or family member who has passed away but you are also helping other people remember their loved ones.
